Product information "Cochineal, red"
Cochineal – Natural Colorant for Violin Making
Cochineal is a traditional natural colorant that has been used in violin making for centuries to prepare color extracts and wood stains. Obtained from the cochineal insect, it produces brilliant red and purple shades and is ideal for the individual coloring of stringed instruments.
For spirit varnishes, cochineal is extracted with alcohol. The filtered color extract can then be added to spirit varnish in the desired amount. Cochineal can also be extracted with water and used as a wood stain.
