Powder Dyes – Colorants for Wood Stains and Varnishes in Violin Making
Powder dyes are finely ground, highly concentrated colorants that are used either for staining wood or for tinting varnishes, depending on the product. In violin making, they are used to enhance the wood’s natural structure or to adjust the color of oil or spirit varnishes.
Thanks to their powder form, they allow for precise dosing and produce intense color depth with high transparency. This makes them ideal for finishing the surfaces of string instruments. This 99% pure alcohol (denatured with 1% MEK) is ideally suited for dissolving natural resins themselves. This high-quality alcohol ensures the solution has no white gumming (streaks). We also recommend out 99% ethanol for spirit soluble powder colours. For varnishing we recommend approximately 300g-400g resin to 1 litre ethanol.
